Dear Parents,
As you know, there will be no school all next week due to the Thanksgiving Holiday. Following are a few important announcements for this week.

Report Cards
Your child will be bringing home their report card in an envelope today. Please sign the envelope and return it by Friday, November 20st. 

Breakfast Book Club
It’s here! We’ll be discussing our latest selection, The Good Dog, by Avi, this Wednesday morning at 7:45. I will send an e-mail asking for contributions to our breakfast. Please check your in-box if you haven’t already responded. We’re looking forward to a great turnout and a lively discussion! Don’t forget the PTA meeting right afterwards in the MPR. It’s a great opportunity to have your voice heard!

Save the Date
After the Thanksgiving Holiday we will begin a community service project that culminates in our classroom with our “Warming Hearts and Hands Celebration” on Friday, December 18th at 10:30. Please mark the date and plan to be here… it’s a “can’t miss!” You will hear more about the project when we return to school in December.

Homework next week
Yes, you read that right… we’re giving you homework, but it’s not too hard, in fact it’s pretty fun! Please take the time to read to your child every day during our vacation next week. All you super sleuths out there are noting the fact that we’re asking YOU to read to your kids (not the other way around). Some of the most powerful teaching moments in our classroom happen over shared stories that we read to your children. You can not only model what good reading sounds like, but how readers think about stories and analyze them while they read and after they’ve finished. Have fun, but please DO take a few minutes every day to read with your kids.

Be sure and know that both Lori and I will count each of you and your children in our many blessings this year. Have a wonderful holiday – and don’t skimp on the gravy – you deserve it!
