Principal's Note

Dear Green Valley Community,
I hope the break has served to renew you and your students.  We return to the very exciting and busy time of the school year as we begin to complete this year’s educational journey.  As part of this journey, students in grades 3-5 will participate in the new SBAC testing.  5th graders will also test on the Science component of the STAR.  Green Valley will be using our computer lab as well as our Computers on Wheels (COWS) to take the SBAC test.  As a school we will use a large window of time from April 21 thru May 15 to complete these exams.  Please remember, participation is very important and our true focus this year is to “test the test”.  This will be an excellent opportunity for administration and teachers to gather information about how students view the test, to better understand the stamina students will need to complete the test, and of course to provide feedback about the test in general.
Just as I have always asked with the STAR testing, please make sure your child comes to school having had a good night of rest, a good breakfast, and a good attitude toward this new test.  I will be sending out more specific information about scheduled testing dates when we return from the break.  For now, I am asking that you please make sure your children get to school on time and as you receive the more formal schedule, that they do not have appointments scheduled in the middle of their testing time.  Green Valley values our partnership with families and looks forward to all we will learn about the new testing as we complete this year’s exams.
I invite you as a parent to go to:  You can take a practice test here and gain a feel for what your 3rd-5th grade students will be tested on, as well as how the test may look.  As we navigate this new testing process together, this is one very important way you can educate yourself.
If you have any questions about testing, please do not hesitate to contact me at my phone or through email.
