Dates to Remember:
Principal's Note
Dear Green Valley Community,
There is much to fill everyone in on as we approach the last five weeks of the school year, but I’d first like to take time to thank and appreciate our many parent volunteers. When I reflect on all that has been achieved for Green Valley Elementary over this past year, I am reminded strongly of the partnership and spirit of community we share. Thank you for your generosity in time, money, and in showering the entire staff with gratitude this past week. We love your children and thank you for entrusting them to us each day.
Please save the following dates as the end of a school year is crammed with many exciting activities. Our Open House for grades K-4 will be held on May 23rd from 6:00-7:00. Our 5th grade Open House is set for June 5th from 8:00-8:40 and 1:40-2:40. Please also, save the evening of June 6th from 7:00-8:30 for a town hall meeting. The Green Valley School Site Council, has worked with the staff and community all year to gather information and set goals for the coming years. We are ready to share the process and outcomes of this intensive year of work on behalf of our students.
Speaking of Site Council, we are in need of parents interested in serving on our Site Council. This body is vital to helping Green Valley establish and maintain strong goals for our students. We are in need of two parent members and one parent alternate. Go to our website at http://www.gves.srvusd.k12.ca.us/and click on the Site Council link to get information about serving. You can also get the necessary paperwork in the front office of the school.
Last but not least, I would like to highlight some of the many accomplishments of our year. We have been able to install four more overhead projectors as well as secure funding for the purchase of a Computer on Wheels. The Computer on Wheels (COW) will be joined by twenty-seven more iPads to complete our first part of the district technology 1:1 initiative. This will provide every 5th grade student 1:1 access to either a laptop or iPad. While we still have goals to accomplish in order to get our site where we would like with regard to technology, we invested well in our students this year.
We are ending this year by securing intensive training in Silicon Valley Mathematics Initiative (SVMI) for five teachers over the summer. We have at least two teachers ready to take on intensive reading training provided thru collaboration between St. Mary’s College of Moraga and the San Ramon Valley Unified School District. This training is going to build capacity for an even stronger early literacy intervention and comes with hours of extra work and training over the next two years. We have begun preparation to delve further into the Common Core Curriculum and look forward to implementation of this curriculum. Our budgets are cleaner, leaner, and ready for posting to the public. This is a huge step forward in ensuring our community feels our stewardship toward their generosity as well as being included and informed. All in all, the school year has been filled with dedicated efforts toward continuous improvement. I am proud of our collective efforts and look forward to continued success together.
Warmly, Donna Grim
